Education, Training and Development (ETD) Specialization

Internships

ETD students can elect an internship as a part of the ETD professional sequence of courses. Internships range from 1-6 semester hours of credit (50-300 clock hours) with additional credit being available to students who have an expressed interest.

Two types of internships are available: WED 495 - Instructional Internship and WED 496 - Professional Internship. WED 495 is designed for individuals who want to become classroom and/or laboratory instructors. The students would serve their internships at community colleges, in apprenticeship programs, corporate education and training departments, or other type of human performance improvement (HPI) facility. Internship credit would be earned for direct classroom/laboratory instruction, as well as, related curriculum development, classroom preparation or student performance and project evaluation activity.

WED 496 differs in purpose from WED 495, in that, the professional internship is designed to accommodate students whose goals might be in areas other than instruction and learning; for example, HPI program development, curriculum writing, program evaluation, quality systems management, and so forth.

Also, credit can be earned in both WED 495 and WED 496 for students interested in gaining experience in both classroom/laboratory instruction and other HPI-related activities. The internship must be arranged with the ETD Coordinator of Professional Experiences one semester prior to the term in which the student wants serve the internship.
