Undergraduate ProgramsBachelor's of Science (On Campus)Education, Training and Development (ETD) SpecializationCourse RequirementsFollowing is a discussion of the course requirements of the ETD specialization. The Regular option of the specialization is comprised of a University Core, Professional Sequence, Technical/Professional Training and Work Experience. The Capstone option has the same four components as the regular option, but with the addition of a Capstone Component. University CoreUniversity Core requirements for both the Regular and Capstone options can be found at the SIU web address: http://www.siu.edu/~corecurr/courses.html. Professional Sequence
Technical/Professional TrainingTechnical/professional training includes all formalized instruction beyond high school in preparing for employment in an occupation. The credit can have been earned at SIU, credit transferred from other accredited institutions, formal training from other than accredited educational institutions, i.e. corporate, military, apprenticeship and so forth, or a combination thereof. Work ExperienceWork experience credit can be awarded for current employment, past employment or a combination thereof. ETD students are required to have a minimum of 15 semester hours of work experience credit as a part of the specialization. Up to 30 semester hours of credit can be earned by documenting four years of full time work experience. To satisfy the ETD requirement, a student’s work experience and technical/professional training must be complementary. Capstone ComponentThe 41 semester hour University Core requirement of the ETD Regular option and the 30 semester hour total of the Capstone option results in a difference of 11 semester hours. This difference needs to be accounted for to meet the 121 semester hour total for graduation. The difference may be satisfied in one of two ways: 1) add an additional 11 semester hours of work experience credit to the minimum 15 semester hour requirement of the student’s program,* or 2) recognize an additional 11 semester hours of technical-professional training credit to the required 35 semester hours. __________________ * Work experience credit also counts as Senior Institution credit. |
