SAMPLE FIGURE
A figure may be a chart, graph, photograph, drawing, or
other depiction. Refer to Manual pages 176-201 to learn whether to use
a figure and how to present it. However, be aware that the placement of figures and figure
captions illustrated in these pages are for the copy manuscript style. In a
final manuscript approach (a) the figure is centered on the page, (b) the
caption is centered below the figure, (c) figures are numbered consecutively
with Arabic numerals in the order in which they are first mentioned in the
text, (d) the word "Figure" and accompanying numeral are italicized
followed by a period, and (e) captions are single-spaced. The example below
illustrates a correctly prepared figure.
