ETD students must document a minimum of 15 semester hours of work experience credit to graduate.1 In the majority of cases, the documentation appears in the form of a letter(s) from the individual’s employer or immediate supervisor. The letter should meet the following criteria:
- An original letter (as opposed to a copy) typed on the employer’s letterhead.
- Current date included.
- Addressed to the ETD Coordinator
- Format:
- First paragraph: Name and social security number of the individual for which the letter is being written plus
1) the number of years of full-time employment, 2) number of
clock hours of employment or 3) a combination of years of full-time work experience and clock hours of employment.
- Second paragraph: Description of duties.
- Third paragraph: Recommendation from the employer or supervisor.
- Signature of the employer/supervisor.
1Thirty semester hours of credit can be awarded for four or more years of documented full-time work experience.
