Doctor of Philosophy in Education Degree

Summary of Requirements and Program Completion

Summary of Requirements

  • Achievement of a grade point average of at least 3.00.
  • Completion of any specific courses required by the doctoral program.
  • Fulfillment of the residency requirement.
  • Completion of the research tool required by the doctoral program.
  • Passing of the preliminary examination.
  • Admission to candidacy.
  • Completion of an approved dissertation with 24 hours of dissertation credit.
  • Oral defense of dissertation.
  • Submission of two approved copies of the dissertation to the Graduate School.
  • Payment of microfilming fee.
  • Completion of microfilm agreement and survey of earned doctorates at the Graduate School office.
  • Degree conferred not less than six months nor more than five years after admission to candidacy.
  • Submission of departmental clearance form.
  • Register for 601 Continuing Enrollment, as required.

Program Completion

The Ph.D. in Education with a concentration in Workforce Education and Development is complete when the candidate's doctoral committee chair notifies the Director of WED Graduate Programs and the Dean of the College of Education and Human Services that the following have been successfully completed:

  • All courses prescribed in the candidate's program of study, including the designated research tool,
  • Final copies of the doctoral dissertation have been submitted to the Graduate School and the Department, and
  • An application for graduation has been submitted to the Graduate School and all relevant fees and outstanding charges have been paid.
